Write to us, and say what you are holding.
hello@heinzbros.comOne of the brothers answers. There is no intake queue and no chatbot.
Three kinds of message, and what each should say
- You are holding photographs and documents. Tell us roughly how many, what they are in — albums, envelopes, shoeboxes, a hard drive — and who is still alive who can name the faces. That last answer sets the schedule more than the count does, and it is the first thing we will ask if you leave it out.
- Somebody in your family still knows, and you can feel the clock. A parent or an aunt who can still identify people, and a house full of things nobody else can read. Say who they are and roughly how much time you think there is. We will tell you honestly whether to start with them or with the boxes — it is almost always them.
- You have a question the records must answer. Tell us the question, the names and places you already have, and what has already been tried. Work that has been done once does not need paying for twice.
What we will probably suggest
Start with one box
A whole house of material is a long engagement and a large decision, and nobody should make it on the strength of a web page. So we would usually rather start with one box — accessioned, described and written up properly, on a small private site you can show the family.
It is the same work at a size you can judge. If it is not worth continuing, you have lost very little and you still keep everything we made.
Before you write
What happens to what you send
Nothing you send us is published, shown or quoted anywhere without your specific written permission — and we do not ask for that permission at delivery, when it is hardest to refuse. Originals are returned. Living people stay off every published page by default, absent rather than blacked out. If you decide at any point that you would rather we stopped, the material and the files come back to you, complete.
